Inspired by Mahakala, the powerful protector in Tibetan Buddhism, this 108 mala embodies strength, protection, and spiritual grounding. It is handcrafted from natural yak bone heart core material, valued for its dense structure and visible marrow patterns. Sourced from the inner section of the bone, each bead reveals unique grain and tonal variations. Subtle surface differences are natural and will settle gradually with regular wear.

Mahakala (Carved Yak Bone Medallions)

The larger dark round carvings represent Mahakala, a powerful protector deity in Tibetan Buddhism. Mahakala embodies protective energy, the removal of obstacles, and the safeguarding of spiritual practice. His wrathful expression symbolizes strength and unwavering protection rather than aggression. In traditional malas, Mahakala elements are included for spiritual defense and grounding force.

Yellow Jambhala (Carved Yak Bone Figure)

The smaller light-colored carved figures represent Yellow Jambhala, the deity of prosperity and abundance. Jambhala is associated with the removal of poverty and the cultivation of both material and spiritual wealth. When combined with Mahakala, the symbolism balances protection and prosperity within one piece.

Vajra (Dorje) Carved Yak Bone Elements

The cylindrical carved components represent the Vajra, also known as Dorje. The Vajra symbolizes indestructible truth, clarity, and spiritual power. It is one of the most important ritual symbols in Tibetan tradition and represents firmness of mind and stability.

Raw Amber

The yellow-orange beads with textured surfaces are raw amber (or amber-style mineral) that retains its natural outer layer, often referred to as “skin.” They are not fully polished, preserving their organic appearance and tactile character.

Fuxin Agate Accent Beads

The red-orange stones are agate, traditionally sourced from the Fuxin region, known for its rich mineral deposits. These beads add warmth and contrast to the bone elements while maintaining a natural mineral aesthetic.

Sandalwood Three-Way Spacer with Inlay

The wooden cube elements with subtle metal dot inlays are sandalwood spacers. In traditional mala construction, the “three-way” connector symbolically represents the unity of body, speech, and mind. It also structurally connects sections of the mala.

Hand-Braided Cord Construction

The mala is assembled using a durable elastic cord rather than cotton thread to ensure strength and resistance to breakage during daily wear or prayer use. Decorative Tibetan-style knots complete the traditional aesthetic.

Each piece is handmade in small batches. Natural beeswax finishing is applied to nourish and protect the bone surface and help develop a deeper patina over time. No two malas are identical.

Please note: due to the use of natural yak bone and handcrafting methods, variations are part of the authenticity and character of the piece.
